Privacy Policy
M2 Media Services (“M2 Media Services,” “we,” “us,” and “our”)provides software and website hosting services and product program assistance to The Girl Scouts of the United States of America ("GSUSA"). M2 Media Services is committed to protecting the privacy rights of the users of this website who participate in product program activities and purchase products through GSUSA's programs. While we do require certain information to be provided to us in order to participate in product programs and make purchases, M2 Media Services uses that information only to provide the service requested. We do not share that information with other parties except as necessary to fulfill the specific request, such as service providers, and we will never use that information for our own marketing purposes. If you are under the age 13, you can only use this website with your parent or guardian. If you are the parent of a minor participating in GSUSA's product program, we encourage you to check and monitor the use of your child's e-mail and other online activities and we urge minors to ask their parent's or guardian's permission before giving personal information to any Web site. For more information on our information practices relating to children’s information, see our Privacy Policy for Children Under the Age of 13, below.
This policy covers only the information collected on the gsnutsandmags.com, gsdigitalcookie.com, gsnutsandchocolates.com, and girlscoutmagazines.com websites (collectively, the "Websites"). Sites that link to or from the Websites, and websites hosted by our various partners, are not covered by this policy. We encourage you to read the privacy policies of every site that you visit as those parties may collect, use, protect and share your information differently than us.
Why We Collect Information
M2 Media Services hosts the Websites, which allows girl scouts to sell certain goods to support their troops, councils, and GSUSA. The Websites enable the parent and girl scout ("Girl") to easily notify potential buyers of their product program efforts. The Websites also enable purchasers who have been referred by the girl scout and her parent to buy the products they select, and the purchases of those buyers will be credited to the product program so that the troop receives credit for that purchase. In order to provide these services we require some personal information from our users, depending on whether they are participants or purchasers.
The Information You Give Us
On the Websites, there are pages where we ask you to enter information in order to receive specific products or services.
In general, we require you to supply the following information in order to register you to participate in a Girl Scout program:
- Parent’s or guardian’s name
- Girl’s name
- Girl’s troop number
- Parent’s or guardian’s e-mail address
- Zip code
- A password
Other types of information that may be requested for subscription services are:
- Billing Address
- Postal Address
- Phone number
- Credit / debit card number and expiration date
How We Use This Information To Serve You
When you first register with one of the Websites, we ask for your name, Girl’s name and troop number, e-mail address, a password, and your zip code. Once you supply this information, you will be able to personalize an online magazine site and/or nut and chocolate site, launch emails, and share on social media to invite friends and family members to shop online to support Girl Scouts. You will also be able to monitor your progress throughout the program. For people shopping on a Girl’s personalized site, personal information provided will be used only for the fulfillment of items purchased. All information sent via e-mail will come directly from M2 Media Services, the Girl Scout Council, or GSUSA. We will not sell or rent this information to anyone else. All information on current and former members is retained in our database for customer service purposes.
Personally Identifiable Information
M2 Media Services does not share your personally identifiable information with third parties for promotional or other purposes unrelated to products you order.
If you order a product, your name, postal address and e-mail address may be shared with the company that provides fulfillment services for that product and with the company that produces or creates the product that you ordered, such as a magazine publisher. This kind of information is shared only to process your order and to provide you with better customer service. One or more of the companies that produce or create the products that you ordered, however, may use your contact information to send you promotional materials. If you have any complaints or comments regarding communications that you have received from any of these companies, please contact them directly. Also, you may find out more information about how these companies use your information by reviewing their respective privacy policies.
Credit/debit card information
Credit / debit card information is never shared with outside parties for promotional or other purposes unrelated to products you order. Your name, mailing address, phone number and credit/debit card information will be used only to process your order and to send you the product you requested. We will not share credit / debit card information with anyone else (unless an outside company is part of the process of fulfilling your order). We will use the information only to process your order and send the product to your gift recipient. The recipient’s information will only be retained in our database for accounting and current or future customer service purposes.
Privacy Policy for Children Under the Age of 13
The Children's Online Privacy Protection Act of 1998 and its rules (collectively, "COPPA") require us to inform parents and legal guardians (as used in this section, "parents") about our practices for collecting, using, and disclosing personal information from children under the age of 13 ("children"). It also requires us to obtain verifiable consent from a child's parent for certain collection, use, and disclosure of the child's personal information. This section notifies parents of: (1) the types of information we may collect from children; (2) how we use the information we collect; (3) our practices for disclosing that information; and (4) our practices for notifying and obtaining parents’ consent when we collect personal information from children, including how a parent may revoke consent. This section only applies to children under the age of 13 and supplements the other provisions of this privacy policy.
Information We Collect from Children
Girls can access many parts of the Websites and their content and use many of its features without providing us with personal information. Additionally, we strongly encourage Girls to access the Websites only with their parent or guardian. Some content and features require us to collect certain information, including personal information, from them. In addition, we use certain technologies, such as cookies, to automatically collect information from our users (including children) when they visit or use the Websites.
We only collect as much information about a child as is reasonably necessary for the child to participate in an activity, and we do not condition his or her participation on the disclosure of more personal information than is reasonably necessary.
Information We Collect Directly. We provide Girls with the ability to create an avatar, which can be based on the Girl’s real-world physical attributes. Girls are also provided with an opportunity to record their voice and upload a picture or video to personalize their product program campaign. When parent’s sign up, we also collect the Girl’s troop number, first and last name, nickname, and may combine that information with other information we collect from the Girl’s parent or guardian or information about the Girl’s product program campaign. We specify whether information is required or optional when we request it.
We enable registered users to communicate with friends and family as part of their product program campaign. The nature of these features allows the Girls to disclose information about them to others. Any videos and images of children are visible through M2 Media Services only to friends and family members whose email addresses you provide, who see your social media postings, or who enter a unique code that you provide to them.
Automatic Information Collection. We use technology to automatically collect information from our users, including children, when they access and navigate through the Websites and use certain of its features. The information we collect through these technologies may include one or more persistent identifiers that can be used to recognize a user over time and across different websites and online services. For information about our automatic information collection practices, including how you can opt out of certain information collection, see the "Cookies" and "IP Addresses" sections of our Privacy Policy.
How We Use Your Child's Information
We use the personal information we collect from your child to send product program campaign solicitations to friends and family and track the results of their product program campaign.
We use the information we collect automatically through technology (see Automatic Information Collection) and other non-personal information we collect to improve our Websites and to deliver a better and more personalized experience by enabling us to estimate our audience size and usage patterns and store information about the child's preferences, allowing us to customize the content according to individual interests.
Our Practices for Disclosing Children's Information
We do not share, sell, rent, or transfer children's personal information other than as described in this section. We may disclose aggregated information about many of our users, and information that does not identify any individual. We may disclose children's personal information:
- To third parties we use to support the internal operations of our Websites and who are bound by contractual or other obligations to use the information only for such purpose and to keep the information confidential.
- With GSUSA as necessary to administer the product program campaign process.
- If we are required to do so by law or legal process, such as to comply with any court order or subpoena or to respond to any government or regulatory request.
- If we believe disclosure is necessary or appropriate to protect the rights, property, or safety of M2 Media Services, our customers or others, including to:
- protect the safety of a child;
- protect the safety and security of the Websites; or
- enable us to take precautions against liability.
- To law enforcement agencies or for an investigation related to public safety.
In addition, if M2 Media Services is involved in a merger, divestiture, restructuring, reorganization, dissolution, or other sale or transfer of some or all of M2 Media Services assets, whether as a going concern or as part of bankruptcy, liquidation, or similar proceeding or event, we may transfer the personal information we have collected or maintain to the buyer or other successor.
Accessing and Correcting Your Child's Personal Information
We request your consent to collection of your child’s personal information at the time of sign up and seek to verify that consent through an email confirmation.
